Advice & Aftercare
What is a Spray Tan?
A spray tan involves applying a fine mist of tanning solution to the skin, giving it a natural-looking bronzed glow without exposure to harmful UV rays. The active ingredient, DHA (dihydroxyacetone), reacts with the skin's outer layer to produce a golden brown colour.
Spray tans are very safe, as the solutions are formulated with skin-friendly ingredients and are FDA-approved for external use.
BEFORE your tan:
-
Remove any unwanted hair 48 hours prior to your treatment.
-
Don't use moisturiser, perfume or deodorant before your appointment.
-
Exfoliate the night before your tan and arrive to your appointment with clean skin. Pay particular attention to dry areas such as knees and elbows.
-
Paint nails and toenails.
-
Remove contact lenses before the treatment to avoid contamination.
-
Wear loose dark clothing and flip flops or loose fitting shoes, tight clothing will cause the tan to rub off. Water must be avoided so bring an umbrella!
How long will my tan last?
Sunless tanning can give the same results as spending 10-14 days in the sun, but without the harmful effects of UV exposure.
A spray tan typically lasts between 5 to 7 days, depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.
Avoiding activities that cause excessive sweating or exfoliation, such as swimming or vigorous exercise, can help extend the life of your tan.
AFTER your tan:
-
Leave the tan to develop for 8-12 hours. Avoid scrubbing, shower until the water runs clear and gently pat dry.
-
Remember that sunless tanning does not protect you in the sun. Use SPF to avoid burning.
-
Do not perform excessive exercise, perspire, or get wet during development.
-
Avoid long baths or going swimming as this will fade your tan quicker.
-
Moisturising daily is key to enhancing the look of your tan and prolonging your colour.
-
Start to exfoliate gently four days after your tan to encourage even fading.
